Manipal University: Shaping the Future of Education Across Continents

Manipal University, also known as Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is a privately owned research institute in Manipal, Udupi, Karnataka, India. Established in 1953 by T.M.A. Pai, it is recognized as a university and operates satellite campuses in Mangalore, Dubai, Pokhara, Antigua, and Putra Nilai. The Deemed University is associated with 31 colleges and offers Bachelors’, Masters’, and Doctoral degrees in various specialities.

JD(S) leader HD Revanna has been detained, while his son Prajwal Revanna is still evading capture. HD Revanna is accused of sexually assaulting a woman and kidnapping another woman. A 47-year-old woman filed a complaint accusing Revanna and HD Revanna of sexually assaulting her and her daughter, a domestic servant in their home. A 20-year-old male in Mysuru filed a second complaint accusing Revanna of abducting his mother after Prajwal reportedly sexually assaulted her.

A second lookout notice was issued against HD Revanna and his son for allegedly abusing women sexually, but Revanna’s attorney informed the court that he had rallies arranged in north Karnataka, where voting is scheduled for May 7. Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that they have issued lookout notices against both HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna, and they have time until this evening to reply to the notices.

Manipal University has branch campuses in Bangalore, Malaysia, Dubai, Antigua, Mangalore, and has an international academic collaboration for twinning programs in engineering with universities in the US, UK, Australia, and other countries. The university’s infrastructure includes air-conditioned lecture halls, skills labs, hostels, multi-cuisine food court, a state-of-the-art health sciences library, gym, swimming pools, football and cricket grounds, and a new indoor sports complex.

Manipal University has two campuses in Malaysia and Dubai, each offering a diverse range of programs. The Melaka Manipal Medical College (MMMC) was established in 1993 as part of the former prime minister’s “Look East Policy” to provide more Malaysian students with the opportunity to become doctors and healthcare professionals. The university is located on South India’s western coast and is well connected by road, train, and air.

Manipal is connected to the world via the international airport in Mangalore, which is approximately 1.5 hours’ drive away by road. Regular flights are offered from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore, while most Gulf countries have direct flights to Mangalore.

The closest train stations are Udupi and Mangalore, which are located on the Konkan route along the west coast of India. Train passengers can go via Chennai/Mumbai/ Bangalore/Goa and then take a connecting train to Mangalore.

Manipal University also participates in various colleges, including Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore’s Kasturba Medical College, KMC International Center, Gangtok’s Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Science, the International Centre for Health Sciences (ICHS), and the Nepal’s Manipal College of Medical Sciences.

Classrooms at Manipal University are air-conditioned and equipped with technology to improve student-teacher interaction, productivity, and communication. The Interact building houses 16 classrooms that can accommodate over a hundred students.

Hostels are divided into three campuses, with each grouped under a warden from the teaching faculty responsible for discipline, maintenance, and room allocation. Students can choose to be a member of any of the messes located at different areas of the campus.

The Central Computing Facility (CCF) at Manipal University is a state-of-the-art facility that supports the educational mission of the institute. It has a user base of over 1500 and is connected to all academic departments, libraries, and other departments. The CCF has around 250 computer terminals equipped with the latest technology. The university also boasts six major central libraries, including the Central Library at MIT, which is accessible to all students.

The Medical Simulation Centre at Manipal University offers a new concept in medical education, teaching students to diagnose and manage disease conditions based on examination findings. The university also offers scholarships and freeships for students admitted to the MBBS, BDS, and BPharm programs within the first 500 ranks of the corresponding merit list.

Manipal University and State Bank of India have partnered to offer student loans at discounted rates at the SBI, Manipal Branch. The SBI Student Loan is available to students admitted to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and Mangalore, with plans to expand to other institutions.

The Syndicate Bank is launching “Syndvidyarthi,” a standby overdraft facility for non-local students pursuing professional courses who are 18 years of age or older. This scheme provides coverage for recurring expenses for non-local students pursuing professional courses.

Lastly, the counseling center provides support and privacy to students who require guidance and counseling.

Manipal University offers comprehensive healthcare coverage for all students, including outpatient benefits and general hospitalization. The University Sports Council supervises all sports activities, with three major facilities: Medical Campus Sports Facility, Manipal, Medical Campus Sports Facility, Mangalore, and MIT Campus Sports Facility, Manipal. The Innovation Center at MIT houses interdisciplinary labs in emerging fields like nanotechnology, ad hoc wireless networks, nuclear engineering, VLSI design, and pattern recognition.

International students can access the university’s Office of International Admissions, which admits foreign and non-resident Indian (FRI) students at the start of the academic year. Admissions are determined by merit and qualifying examination grades. The Innovation Center fosters innovative, incubation, and entrepreneurial abilities among locals, teachers, and students.

The Dr. TMA Pai International Conventional Centre, Mangalore, is a state-of-the-art convention center that can accommodate up to 3000 people. Catering services are provided by MIT Food Court and MU Food Court. Manipal offers comfortable and well-maintained lodging options for travelers.
